THE SCHNAUZER SPOTLIGHT - AN INTERVIEW WITH CASPER
WE HAVE FOLLOWED THIS LITTLE MAN FOR A WHILE NOW, HIS ADVENTURES UP IN THE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS ARE AWESOME AND HIS MUMS PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS AIN'T BAD EITHER! INTRODUCING THE MOUNTAIN ADVENTURER CASPER.
WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE THE SCHNAUZER BREED?
One of our requirements was a 'hypoallergenic' dog too and although no dog is truly hypoallergenic schnauzers are a breed that do not shed hair particularly so were ideal from that perspective. Our first meeting of any schnauzer was our friend's gorgeous giant schnauzer called Nox. He was such a delightful dog that we fell in love with schnauzers instantly. At the time we lived in a small house with a even smaller garden so we ruled out getting a giant and instead looked into miniature schnauzers. We love their little characters and the size was absolutely perfect for us!
TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT THEIR PERSONAL STORY
Casper is our first dog together and to be honest I don't think either of us appreciated how hard it would be to have a puppy. We got Casper at 10 weeks old and its been a whirlwind ever since then. He is ridiculously sassy, insanely smart and massively greedy!
He first came to live with us in Liverpool and was a proper city dog enjoying visiting pubs and parks. When he was two years old we moved to Aberdeen in Scotland and things have certainly changed! We've swapped parks for mountains and he is definitely in his element being a mountain dog. We have recently started Munro bagging which requires climbing a set list of Scottish mountains, there are currently 282 in total! He has also taken up agility and is pretty good, the let down in the team is definitely dog mum who doesn't know her lefts from her rights. But we look forward to competing sometime in the near future when restrictions allow.
Casper is quite a confident dog and he adores people. He is relatively sociable with other dogs, he loves a wrestle and he also loves to antagonise his dog friends by finding out what winds them up. However, during the first COVID lockdown he was exposed to many puppies to help their socialisation, but unfortunately it negatively impacted Casper and he now can be quite reactive to young dogs. At home he loves a cuddle and lots of fuss, and of course many treats!
WHAT QUIRKS DO THEY HAVE?
Oh there are many! Physically, Casper has a broken tail tip from when he was born so his tail is super curly. He also has a very short snout for a schnauzer which has resulted in an under bite and what we affectionately call his 'snaggletooth', where one or sometimes two of his teeth poke out from beneath his lips. Other quirks include always having to have the last bite of any fruit you are eating, not letting his lead touch his back and he also likes to carry a toy up to bed each evening.
HOW MANY NICKNAMES DO YOUR SCHNAUZER HAVE AND WHAT ARE THEY?
Quite a few! Some ruder than others! The most common ones would be, Fluffy Bum, Devil Dog and Tweetie Pie.
WHAT ARE THE MOST SCHNAUZER-ISH CHARACTERISTICS IN YOUR SCHNAUZER?
WHAT IS THE FUNNIEST/NAUGHTIEST THING YOUR SCHNAUZER HAS EVER DONE?
WHO IS THEIR FAVOURITE HUMAN?
Always dog mum! Much to dog dad's dismay, he is even chief feeder but it makes no difference!
WHERE IS THEIR FAVOURITE PLACE TO WALK?
Any forest would do, the more trees to sniff the better! He is also quite partial to a mountain hike where he can run through lots of heather and gorse bushes.
WHAT IS THEIR FAVOURITE GAME OR TOY?
Anything that can be used in a game of tug.
WHAT IS THEIR FAVOURITE TREAT?
Casper is a big fan of any and all food, but strawberries would probably be top of the list.
WHERE IS THEIR FAVOURITE SPOT IN THE HOUSE?
The sofa. Particularly when the blinds are open so he can freely bark at the outside world whilst being very comfy.
IF YOUR SCHNAUZER COULD TEXT YOU ANYTHING, WHAT WOULD THEY SAY?
Is it dinnertime yet?
WHAT WOULD THEIR SCHOOL REPORT SAY?
Very clever but spent too much time getting classmates into trouble.
IF YOU COULD ASK YOUR SCHNAUZER ONE QUESTION, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Are you happy?
NAME ME ONE THING THAT WOULD BE ON YOUR SCHNAUZERS BUCKET LIST
To succeed in kicking dog dad out of bed at night.
LASTLY...DOES YOUR SCHNAUZER BARK A LOT?
Of course! Happily barks at anything he can see outside whilst being inside the house!
A black schnauzer, who'd have guessed you could photograph them quite as well! If you'd love to see more of Casper and his adventures and amazing photography, then take a follow of his instagram page:
